Role Overview
This newly created Platform Director – Cards opportunity is responsible for the end-to-end ownership of a critical Cards Platform that underpins debit cards, credit cards, digital wallets and the future of everyday payments.
This is a true platform leadership role rather than a traditional feature or product management position. You will define and execute a 3–5 year platform strategy, balancing customer outcomes, commercial objectives, technology modernisation and operational excellence.
You will be responsible for uplifting capability, embedding a high-performance culture and ensuring the platform continues to evolve alongside rapidly changing customer expectations and emerging payment technologies.

Key Responsibilities
- Own and drive the strategic vision, roadmap and long-term evolution of the Cards Platform
- Lead platform modernisation initiatives that improve scalability, resilience, security and customer experience
- Own the ongoing assessment and evolution of the Cards Platform, establishing clear platform boundaries, balancing capacity against strategic priorities, and embedding robust governance and risk management practices to support long-term platform performance.
- Lead and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team, driving capability uplift, accountability and continuous improvement
- Balance strategic investment with near-term delivery, ensuring the platform continues to meet evolving customer and business needs
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders across Retail Banking, Technology, Risk and Operations to influence strategic direction
- Drive platform governance, investment decisions and prioritisation across multiple initiatives
- Champion innovation across payments, digital wallets, tokenisation and agentic payment capabilities
- Build trusted relationships with Executive stakeholders while influencing complex decisions across the organisation
- Foster a culture of customer obsession, data-driven decision making and continuous innovation
Skills & Experience
- Deep Cards Platform experience is essential with end-to-end platform ownership – This is a platform role, being able to build scale into the platform and hold Engineering Managers to account is key, this is not a business role
- Extensive knowledge of card payments ecosystems including card schemes, digital wallets, tokenisation and industry messaging standards
- Proven experience developing and executing long-term platform strategies and roadmaps
- Demonstrated success leading and growing large, high-performing Product, Engineering and Design teams
- Strong platform mindset with experience balancing customer outcomes, technology investment and operational excellence
- Ability to influence and engage senior executives across Business, Technology and Risk functions
- Experience operating within complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
- Commercial mindset with strong strategic thinking and decision-making capability
- Passion for innovation within payments, including emerging technologies such as Agentic Payments and the future of digital commerce
- Resilient, collaborative and highly driven leadership style with a focus on developing people and building exceptional team cultures
