Company Overview 
We are working with an international general insurance group who are ASIC regulated and enjoying growth in the Australian market.  The successful candidate will join the senior leadership team reporting to the Managing Director, and act as their first dedicated Risk and Compliance leader in Australia in a standalone capacity.

Role Overview 
  • Maintain the enterprise risk management framework and act as the subject matter expert within the team on the application of various risk management and compliance frameworks
  • Research and maintain knowledge of financial services industry with regards to current and emerging regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Develop, embed and ongoing review the various policies, procedures and tools to manage the regulatory obligations of the business as well as performing the various compliance tasks to manage these regulatory obligations
  • Lead compliance training initiatives to promote awareness and understanding of ethical conduct, confidentiality requirements, responsible underwriting practices, and anti-fraud measures
  • Manage the strategic risk assessment in close collaboration with stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain robust processes to identify, assess and monitor material risks, including control testing, remediation tracking and key risk indicators (KRIs)
  • Manage the annual cycle of strategic, operational and compliance risk assessments
  • Manage the incident process
  • Prepare the quarterly R&C report and support local teams in preparation of quarterly and monthly reporting
  • Support the Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officers overseas and collaborate with underwriting, claims, finance, and actuarial teams to embed risk considerations into strategic and operational decision-making processes

Skills & Experience 
  • Six years of relevant work experience in insurance or re-insurance, with exposure to risk management and compliance
  • Proven, strong working knowledge of industry processes and regulations, ASIC Regulatory Guides, AFS licensing and AML/CTF obligations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or other relevant field highly desirable
  • Familiarity with insurance terminology, products, underwriting and re-insurance
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (incl. Excel, Power point, and Word) and affinity for handling new applications
  • Analytical mindset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence senor stakeholders and regulators effectively
  • Attention to detail and discipline
  • Solution orientated with a keen eye for achieving commercial outcomes
